Mike & Melissa - Great video. I'm behind again. Work on the trail looks good. That box plane really does the job, and that small tractor pulls it with no sweat, no strain. Blessings to you both and the family. Hi to Hunter, good to see you in the closing today.

I used to work at logging in old growth hardwood forests in Australia. When he had finished we would put in diagonal drains across the tracks to channel water away. This stopped erosion on the edges of the tracks. I am wondering why you do not do the same with your tracks. I should add that the area we were logging in received enormous rainfall. Love your videos by the way. Cheers mate.

Mike I just recently watched some old videos you have done (around #200) on cutting trails. you did not have to cut through any wet areas? I bought a property in Canada where in order to cut trails I would have to go through these wet areas. Do you have video on how you dealt with them? Really enjoy all the videos, keep up the good work.

Good job Hunter. I think you are starting to enjoy being in front of the camera. Mike that oak would make some good looking door trim and even base trim but you would need more than what you got from that log for base trim. If you are going to have a fireplace cut you a big timber for a nice solid mantle. Stay safe and another good video.

The next time you rent an excavator, wouldn't it be a good time to widen that area of trail by cutting back into the higher side of the hill? You would have to cut down more trees and get rid of the stumps, but it might be better in the long run. The other side drops off too steeply to build up that area to widen the trail and it is always going to erode due to water flow. You could also at the same time do as others have already suggested by grading the trail to the higher side of the hill and put a small culvert going under/across the trail to divert the water flow from rain and snow melt.

I was told one time by a older experienced dirt work operator that on roads cut into a hill, the side closest the hill should be the low side and the side closest the ravine should be higher. The reason is that if you do slide for what ever reason you will slide toward the hill and not off into the ravine. Has anyone else heard that? Seems logical, but am curious what others do.

@Outdoors With The Morgans, as with you all, I have been busy working at my farm during this COVID thing. I am blessed in that regard! Also, as you know, it has been HOT!!! It is a little cooler working in the woods and on my creek crossings. We have had some pretty good rain lately so the dirt work has slowed down, but my food plots are growing like crazy. I guess we have been lucky in that we have only had one dry, hot, spell which lasted a little over two weeks, but even with the rain our ground it really dry! Our pumpkin patch is not doing the best, so I have been busy prepping for this coming trapping season. We are overrun with Raccoons and our turkey and quail population are suffering because of it. So, even with fur prices being way down, I will be working on "thinning the herd". Thanks again for all of your entertaining videos, and uplifting family lifestyle. It is so refreshing! I look forward to each new video. You all take care and stay cool. I hope you got your air conditioner fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
