When finished, open, add cheese and close the top to allow the cheese to melt prior to eating. Also, we use hash browns instead of cutting the potato into slices along with waffle sliced carrots. Great content again! Thanks!

Some rutabagas would be great. Like a pasty, but without the crust. A little brown gravy mix would be good to mix with the juices too.

If you really want to kick it up, sausage, I like andouille for a little head but smoked sausage or kielbasa work too, and shrimp with potato and corn on the cob the frozen little cold that are cut about 2” long work well if fresh corn is not in season. Add butter and a crab boil spice like Old Bay are good and you have a shrimp boil in a package.

We use to make them in a real camp fire, camping up on the river, after breakfast fire and then dug down in the ground and covered with a layer of dirt and then pulled the coals over it. When came in from fishing, it was time to pull it out and eat. Of coarse even warm bark would have tasted good, by then :-)

Melissa, Try some Country Bob's all purpose general sauce for red meat, pork, chicken, fajitas, seafood. A little oor a lot, depending on your taste buds. Ordered from WalMart Grocery. They have a Meatloaf recipe on website that is to fix, eat too much and die over. Just blow up! Not a ketchup/tomato sauce base Meatloaf.

As I just finished watching the video, I noticed that 102 watchers gave you a thumbs down. I read some of the comments and found none that reflected that feeling. You'd think that if it deserved a negative thumb that it would also need a comment. No balls at all. Maybe it was because they're jealous of the fact that ExMark and others use you for advertising. Well, they should realize that it's hard work and dedication to the work ethic that makes the rest of us want to watch each and every day.

Great video. After we cook our hobo dinners we open them up and sprinkle shredded cheese. Remember to double up the foil so it you accidentally poke a hole your dinner is not last.

Yum! We call them Steam Boats...we use Italian Sausages, potatoes, onions, yellow squash and zucchini. You can do a seafood version, with a small salmon filet, a couple clams and shrimp, and for vegetables, add potatoes and asparagus spears. Add some clam juice, and good to go!

Those remind me of the campfire meals we would have as kids. My Dad had an invention he called Plug Potatoes. Use an Apple Corer to remove a plug from a Potatoe then sprinkle Lipton onion soup mix into the hole. Add a scoop of butter and replace the plug... Wrap the whole spud in foil and throw it right on the coals... so good!

Hi Melissa, True story: When I was in the seventh grade, in the 70's, my teacher made a homemade paddle that he used for discipline quite often. (Not any more, right). On the face of the paddle he had "WOW" engraved into the wood. One day he decided I needed an attitude adjustment (ok, he was right), so I received three licks with the "Wow" side of the paddle. Next day he asked me in class was my rear end sore. I replied yes & not only that when I got out of the shower this morning I had "MOM" tattooed on my rear as well! After that day his homemade paddle became known as "MOM" until they banned using them in schools. haha. I saw another post that stated you left out the most important ingredient "Love". I have to disagree, you & Mike put nothing but Love into not only your food but in every part of your family & pets & property! Another reason I Love the channel!! Have a Day!!

Need to make banana boats over the grill. Cut a wedge out out of the banana but leave the skin. Load with mini marshmallows and chocolate bits. Put the banana skin back and wrap in foil and pout on coals to let marshmallows and chocolate to melt. When done, scope out banana and toppings with a spoon. Like a banana split without the ice cream!

When we made them in Scouts we put a cabbage leaf between the foil and other ingredients. An apple 🍎 slice adds flavor and moisture too.

Oh...a good tip on your foil packet dinners (to change them up a bit) is to add some spicy ground sausage to the ground beef. If you are familiar with what a stromboli tastes like your mouth should be watering already. ;-)

Awesome! We make them here in beautiful sunny South Fork, Pa. as well. Home made apple BBQ sauce, A-1, Sriracha sauce are staples. Also, I generally keep some Con Yeager high temp pepperjack, swiss, and cheddar on hand. This turns out awesome, and the cheese doesn't stick to anything.

Looks very yummy . Glad I watched this before I went shopping . One of the local stores has 80-20 ground beef on sale for $2.99 lb . In Ontario there are 3 classifications of ground beef . Regular which is very fatty , lean 80-20 and extra lean . I always get the lean . Gonna try this tonight but on the BBQ . Another great video by Melissa and Mike . My fav is a thick butterfly pork chop bacon on both sides, carrots and taters, onions. Comes out tasting like ham. I’ve had so many of these things with so many variations of meat and veggies at Scout camps since 1966. Another fav is chicken breast, wrapped in bacon and doused w Italian salad dressing and name your veggies. Mmmmmmm. Yes I flip mine multi times. I use fingers to do so and retrieve.

My sister uses cabbage as the base, then the beef, vegetables and sliced cheese, all wrapped up to cook. The cabbage keeps the meat from sticking to the foil and the cabbage sweats the vegetables holding all the moisture inside. Fresh mushrooms, zucchini, or squash would also be good mixed in. Anything for a change of pace for meals.

If you put a slice of bread under the meat, it will soak up the grease while it cooks. Also, if you roll up the ends up and connect into a handle it will help to take the packet off the coals.

Those small foil cake pans from the dollar store make it easier. Dump your stuff in, make a foil lid and go. Much easier to take a peek and reseal than folded foil pouches.
