Outdoors With The Morgans

This evening we ran to the mall, had a couple little incidents, then came home, sawed some lumber on the Woodmizer Sawmill, then dropped a tricky maple that needed to go for the new building. Melissa told me not to hit the fence, I said don't worry! Used the Kubota BX 23S, Woodmizer LX 150, and Stihl MS 261 Saw Today

Outdoors With The Morgans I had an MS170 and decided to upgrade as I wasn’t cutting it for me anymore, pun intended, so I picked up the 261. I was initially set on getting a 250 but had an opportunity to try both at a friends cabin bucking up some 30” plus birch trees. They get pretty big up here in the interior of British Columbia, and It wasn’t even close, the 261 is a monster.

I _always_ measure my felled trees, and so I have a pretty good idea of how tall they are - hardwoods 80ft, scrub pines (like your red pines) at the edge of the grass around 70ft, or 80ft if they are back in the woods, and white pines around 90ft. Just a moment pacing out the distance wll tell me to within 5ft where the top will land.

I thought in PA you had to remove your hitch when your not pulling a trailer?
Rdrake1413 29 күн мурун
A few years ago I was visiting family in Corry, PA and my Uncle told me I had to remove my trailer hitch from the receiver on my truck or would be fined. I know PA has some silly laws but I have looked it up and haven't found anything that says you have to remove hitch when not pulling a trailer.www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=trailers.com/state-laws/pennsylvania.php&ved=2ahUKEwjMysahxJXsAhXNpnIEHRLiC4cQFjABegQIBhAE&usg=AOvVaw3_hxyC84inySC2DJN4yJIE

Mike & Melissa - Mike you really are old school. My dad taught me how to back using mirrors, but now that my CRV has a backup camera and warnings when I'm getting to close, I'm using them. On the other hand I have hearing issues, so if you can't hear that beeping, I feel bad for you. It is one of those things couples use to tell stories on each other. I have one with my wife and a garage door, I'll share if we ever get together. Blessings to you both, and to your family. Hi to Hunter and the girls. Enjoyed Hunter's bashful side coming out when you asked him to wave. Take care Mr. Hunter.

I back into parking spots about 95% of the time. I've whacked things like light stanchions and such a few times myself. Not a big deal. Plus, it's just a pickup truck. Ford, but still just a pickup. Not like its something valuable like a Rolls Royce or Bugatti. I developed this habit back when I drove wreckers, and I always had to back in the vehicle being towed into the limited space we had on the lot.

You can estimate the height of a tree fairly accurately just using a straight stick. I will try to explain it but you might be better off to google it. You need a stick that is 4 inches longer than the length of your outstretched arm to your eye. Hold the stick so the bottom is flush with the bottom of your hand. Walk back from the tree. With your arm stretched out, sight down the stick. The top of your hand should be parallel with the base of the tree, the top of the stick should be at the top of the tree. In other words you should be looking over your hand at the base of the tree and, moving only your eyes, looking over the top of your stick at the top of your tree. Where you are standing at that point is approximately how tall the tree is, or where the top will be when you cut it down. you can make adjustments to the length of the stick as you cut down trees to make the measurements even more accurate.

No, you back into a space because it's safer... if you pull in, you must back out into traffic... if you back into the space, there isn't anything back there. Then you can pull out and look both directions. And for hitting the hitch... no big deal. I do it all the time. It's better than denting the bumper.

Funny story about backing up. A few years back I was parking my pickup on the street in front of my wife’s car and I was backing up listening to the beepers and not watching the screen. All of a sudden, Crunch! I hit the license plate right in the middle. What I didn’t realize was that the hitch sticks out a few inches beyond where the sensors think you are and in this case were not reliable. My son was in the truck and I said don’t tell your mom. I took the plate off and flattened it as best I could and put it back on. A few weeks later at dinner, my wife says, someone hit my car and bashed in the front plate. I couldn’t keep a straight face and started laughing along with my son. I fessed up that it was me. Needless to say, we are still married and will celebrate 39 years in 2 weeks.
