This evening we took down the last tree for the Hobby Garage Build, this one was a Walnut! I think we only have four Walnut Trees remaining. I used the Kubota KX-080 Excavator, Kubota MX 5400 Tractor and Stihl MS 261 Chainsaw.

Gust got back on line. Had phone line cut in truck wreck and no one to fix it. agh! Remember - walnut wood shavings/sawdust - will - WILL dissolve horse hoofs. Sad thing. Pls keep that in mind. I've seen cases were the hoses were put away with four bleeding hoofs - no fix.

Was that a walnut or a butternut Melissa was holding? We would use butternut in place of walnut when a customer could not afford the real thing (for cabinets but not for doors or tables as it is not as strong) I just went back to the video and looked at the leaves on the tree you knocked down and I think you should look them up, they sort of look like the butternut tree leaves in my yard

When cutting trough a tree trunk, make sure your dog isn't on the back side of the root ball or when it flops back down it could trap the dog or child under it. yeah it happens! dogs like to dig in the fresh dirt.

I'm in eastern PA right on the Delaware River ... we have a lot of Black Walnut here ... I took a half dozen smaller ones down when I moved in 5 years ago ... decided to just leave the stump as the root system is big and tough ... no need to yank them, trenched them out and cut below grade ... drilled them with a 1 inch bit, 2 inches deep to hold water and covered with soil/grass .... damn things are still there, barely breaking down ... I left the mature ones as the squirrels eat the walnuts all winter ... and I make Black Walnut tincture from the dried hulls .... old Indian Medicine .... many believe you can't burn black walnut ... but it's a decent hardwood and burns well in a stove ... funny, being new to the area I've noticed there is no, or little Oak on the river ... the area was an early settlement and most Oak has been cut for wood ... but drive a half mile away from the river and most of the old growth around the farmland is still solid oak ... nice work on the excavator Mike ... like flying a Helocraft, it becomes a Zen thing where the machine just becomes an extension of your limbs ... I'm a retired builder, so I miss the days of running heavy equipment ... but need to put in some drainage pipe to lessen the hydro static water pressure on the house foundation (was reminded again with the deluge we got last Tuesday... we got 7 inches of rain in an hour, and I'm at the bottom of a mountain just before the river) .. I'm in an old rock quarry cut into the mountain (horseshoe) used to build the Delaware canal across the street ... grading/drainage is good but there is a high spot between the culvert that connects under the road exiting into the canal ... so I think I'll just rent a Mini-X and put in 50 ft of 10in perf pipe to connect back yard to the culvert as access it tough for a big machine ... *I hope Hunter is doing well with the lock-down changes and all the activity around the place ... and give Archie a big smooch from us ... he's growing like a weed, and lucky to have the older goldens to guide him to being a good boy ... can't wait to see the shop/garage or plans ... and it will be nice to have more room to store stuff and work in a heated building ...

keep that walnut in a flower pot out side over winet,it will sprout then plant it in a new locaion to remeber the tree by.its natures gift for being stewards of the land.also the next walnut you take down with the excavator cut the trunk about 2 foot up,and shake the dirt off, then pick out a large long foot and concentrate on that.keep that section and cut it in slabs 3inches thick, this is where gunstock wood comes from, treat yourself to a new gun and hae a stock made for it.also when you cut walnut on the mill make sure to wear a respirator,it will iritate the crap out of your lungs and sinuses

Look like just enough lumber off of that walnut to make a Desk or Bar. Sweet, and Did you know you can take the hulls off of the walnuts and put them in a 5 Gallon bucket and fill with water and put a cloth cover over it for a week then strain it and you will have 3.5 - 4 gallon of walnut stain. I have seen a friend do it 2-3 times and end up with a lite walnut stain and put it on a coffee table made of pine and after put a clear coat on it was beautiful.

Ever since I subscribed to your channel and became an avid viewer, I’ve been more motivated to work on improving our property. Prior to watching your channel, I had very little interest in doing any type of outdoor projects. For four years I let things go, first I was in graduate school and most of my time was spent working on getting my Masters degree. The last two years I was busy running marathons and training. Because of coronavirus pandemic, I’ve spent more time at home and getting a lot accomplished with cutting and splitting wood, rebuilding my deck and garage. Thank you for rekindling my enthusiasm for working to improve my property. From Highgate,Vermont.

Are you going to saw any boards out of the walnut to use in your building? Might be a nice touch. Also, I have heard tell of people making lumber from walnut stumps for gunstocks and such; if you have the wherewithal, knock as much dirt as you can off then pressure wash it clean as you can get it, then saw something out of it. You might want to see if someone else has a how to on it first, but might be worth trying.
