Todays video is Part 2 of the work on the Pond removing built up sediment with the Kubota KX-080 Excavator. I got almost all the sediment out of the pond and just have some more cleaning up to do.

If there's no creatures, like fish, why not dig a trench and drain the pond fast, let it dry some and then finish the job? Just curious.

Just wondering if a roto-rooter auger could clean out the stand pipe. I cant help but think it is still a great system to maintain the pond level.

Mike, Melissa, Have you thought about a few small "dry-dams" up stream from the pond? If not dams of soil, a few old trees staked to prevent water from pushing them down stream. It would hold some silt from coming straight down. The CCC did that in many areas here in Southern Indiana to help slow down the effects of erosion and we can still see where it was done in some places. The other option would be to find some old utility poles and lay them across to make small dams as well. Just thought I would pass that on.

would love to rent one for a day, but do not think it would be worth the cost of having it delivered and all , for making a bank cut to my creek, so I did not have to go out in the road with my side x side to our little secluded camp site, at my old age :-( With all my disabilities , my best days are when I get seat time on my L3300 tractor with front bucket. PS: then there is always all those other things, just up my wood lane I have wanted to do . Then probably would not want to take it back. a very old Nam combat vet

Searched cleaning out pond ,and found your channel...watched both 1 & 2 of this video...we live in N.E. Texas - close to Ok and not far from Ark. borders...we bought our homestead property and are retired...the property came with two ponds...neither are huge, but big enough to catch some dinner for the night...these ponds have not been taken care of at all for at least last 10 years...maybe longer...trees lined around both and all the leaves fall into the ponds during fall/winter...and for the 2 yrs we've been here...we have gotten about 50 inches from Jan-May...so yeah, do not know how deep these ponds are now...neighbors said they used to be very very deep...but from when...we are wanting to restock our ponds with bass and catfish (one of each) and being older and living on SS alone...trying to figure out best way to get the ponds cleaned up and some "muck" out...hubby found a guy not too far that has a trachoe (excavator) that has a 12 ft reach...looks like yours is larger? rental is for a day with no more than 8 hours on the rig...fairly reasonable, but don't know if we could get both ponds done...hubby has a Kubota tractor and could do some work with that...we don't have a bulldozer...anyway...sub'd to your channel and all the info you may have is appreciated!

Hi Mike and Melissa, I just binged watched about seven of your episodes and I think it’s time for me to go get some shut-eye. In regards to the root-balls that remained after cutting down those trees I was wondering if you have ever thought to contact some wood artists who use the lathe to make beautiful wooden objects? I’ve seen some of them make absolutely amazing pieces of art using wood most people would toss in the fire. A few of them have even used the root ball from trees although I will admit I don’t know if they were as large as the root-balls that you have pulled from your property. Just a thought. Stay safe.

Mike, you're a natural running that excavator! I still think it would be a great & useful addition to the Morgan's Equipment. I know as fast as you can get a building site ready, that you could dig a swimming pool as well! Just think how great it would be to be able to take it into the woods and push over trees, and dig out drainage ditches along the trails. And occasional pond maintenance would be an easy task, to keep it dressed and empty of trash and sediment. Love watching you make improvements to your property! Wish you all the best!

Next time perhaps do a complete drain on the pond, several months before you plan to do the cleanout. Perhaps work out now while it is low, how you would drain it. Siphon, build a drain port into the drain pop that you don't plan to re-use, etc.

Mike, your doing as good as any rookie out there. Its a fine line between a good idea and stuck clear to the exhaust stack and having a D8 dig you out so safe is always penny wise. Yes I have many years on them and yes I did get stuck a few times, even when it wasn't my fault. Some were and it cost me but it was my own equipment and that takes some of the cost down as far as fixed today or over a months time. Handing back a machine that your the first to scratch is rather hard to explain.... had to do that and it still makes my neck stiff. Having Missy do the film and back log helps with viers as she is as pretty as a speckled puppy. (I'm 73) so the world does go round and round an lots of viewers are single men. They could care less if that dirt came out, just want to watch the pretty girl. I might even been one once but at my age, I would rather watch the dog chase the car. Really good dirt going in that pile and it will be when dried out as that is how most dirt sales places mine dirt. Very few rocks and its good in lawns to gardens

good show mike. I watch letsdig18 you tube as he running his heavy equipment...puts me to sleep with the hyd pump whine. Around here maybe its the soil type but pond sediment is the last thing we put on a garden. Nothing grows and the soil turns hard when it get a bit dry. Once dried out though it sure makes a good road.

Mike, being an ex powder monkey, appreciate this. In the late 60's this is how my older brother and I "de-silted" our pond(dam here). It was similar to yours but a little smaller. We sank a 112lb bag of nitropil plus a few sticks of gely tn the middle, lit the fuse and then hid behind the rear wheels of the tractor on top of the bank. After the "big bang" we realised we had parked near a bee hive which used to sit on a 44gal drum, the hive was blown down and the bees a bit upset intent on killing the two of us. A half mile sprint back to the safety of our house. Later, back to the dam, there was no water left only a huge crator, the trees were devoid of branches and leaves, the side of the tractor facing the dam unrecognisable plastered by a few feet of mud. The dam was now silt free in milliseconds. Our hearing did return.

On your stand pipe. Put a capon the end of the pipe fill with water and pour in 2 gallons of heavy duty drain cleaner. It will eat the organic material. Remove the cap and it will flush out than run a hose from a heavy duty pump water it to the discharge end of the pipe if it does not run out when you remove the cap. If it does flush it from the Lake end. It should clean it out.than get a filter cap for the end feed of the pipe to keep it clear. My brothers aunt’s pond had been stopped for 2 years running real slow and it worked, A guy who did ponds always tried that first before anything else and it worked about 75% of small ponds before he did anything to the dam. Worth a try. Will not harm the pipes.

Hey, Mike and Melissa, we're experiencing an ultra-dry summer here in Western Slope Colorado, about 20 miles northwest of Aspen. Couple big fires raging nearby, and it reminds us of having to abandon our home during the Lake Christine fire 2 summers ago. The Grizzly creek fire is now on the outskirts of Glenwood Springs, which is about 10 miles northwest of us on Hwy 82. Huge jet tankers are dropping orange fire-suppressant, plus a fleet of helicopters and 250 hot-shotters and local resources are helping, with more on the way. The Grizzly Creek is now the #1 fire-abatement priority in the country because interstate I70 has been blocked for two days, and the Roaring Fork Valley can't get groceries, mail, etc. I hope you get some rain, but AFTER we do! :) Also a very, very smart call on your part to hold off on using that great burn-put you built. Keep us mountain Coloradans in your thoughts and prayers!
