Today marks four months since we entered into a partnership with Kubota Tractor Corporation. In this video we use the land plane on the MX 5400 and the Land Pride Brush Hog on the Kubota BK 23S. I also talk about what has been most impressive so far in this relationship.

I agree Kubota’s are great. I have an old HST1700 with a loader, snow blower, and flail mower, been a great machine. I also have a GF1800 mower. Went shopping this spring and stocks were low with all the pandemic buying. I ended up with a Kioti CK4010HST TLB. So far I’m impressed, the loader is plenty strong, filled full of stone and handles it with ease. Backhoe and loader very smooth, loader hydraulics could be a little quicker, but the controls are great. The one thing that I was surprised the most about, is the two pedal HST Controls. I have to say I prefer them to the treadle or rocker pedal. I enjoy your videos, maybe add a little Kioti action if you have a chance!

A few years back, when I was thinking of buying a tractor, I found your channel and a few others. You were running a different brand at the time. But after watching a while and seeing what jobs each of you on the channels were using them for, I took the advice that the dealership--the quality of the dealer, and the relationship--was at least as important, if not more, than the brand. I ended up with a BX23S. Orange didn't have quite as much loader lift capacity as the Green brand, which had me leaning Green initially. But I got two different vibes when I visited the dealers near me. Green just wanted to sell me a tractor and move on to the next customer. Orange wanted to know how I intended to use it, how much property I have (which isn't much), and what I thought I might eventually want to use it for...long term plans, in terms of future attachments and such. In short, the guys at the Orange dealership wanted me to buy the right tractor for my needs, not just any tractor. I've been happy with the choice. And some of the credit for how I went about choosing I owe to you, so thanks.

I would love to know what that 4ft bush hog, brush cutter can do... I am not being negative, but some of that grass I could have cut with my sorry but lawn mower (2 or 4 passes). However before buying a 20k tractor and 8k worth of equipment, I want to know what to aspect.

Your comments about the Kabota people was interesting, but as you said, were corporate people. When it comes to dealers it can be a different story in my experience. There are good & not so good. Years ago I did not buy a Kabota for that reason. I purchased a "green" machine from a smaller two outlet family owned dealer with great customer service with that "small town" attitude. JD apparently wants only large multi outlet dealers these days so this family was basically forced to sell out to a large dealer network. They closed down the closest outlet & the customer service elsewhere is not what it was. I agree people are the most important part of the equation.

In keeping with y’all’s request for some of the things your subscribers do, here is something I did that Melissa’s, “Morgans off the Leash,” trailer reminded me of. I am a retired locomotive engineer and still do both Railroad and Aviation consulting work. In 2009 I was involved with the Warner Brothers movie, “Jonah Hex” which was released in 2010. If you google the trailer for, “Jonah Hex” I am running the steam engine. We spent 13 days operating the steam engine for that movie. Our other engineer and I split the engineer position during the filming of the movie.

While you’re at it, are there any features or things about the Kubotas that really bug you, or, something that is close but not just right??
Shane Zettelmier
Shane Zettelmier Ай мурун
I think you’re right about most modern tractors being pretty well designed and built, they’ve definitely come along way in the integration of the components is done really well now. My biggest problem is with company practices. And that’s where I kind of like Kabota more now. I’ve always been a diehard green fan, not for any legitimate reason other than it’s just what I’ve always loved. And I still do, but some company politics are really starting to bug me in the bigger tractor companies. On a big farm you’re paying three $400,000 a unit for some of these bigger tractors and now everything is electronically on it and there are hundreds of sensors on these things and all of a sudden you’re running and your tractor shut you down telling you you have air number blah blah blah and they don’t give you access to that software or manuals telling you what that is and you’re basically forced to go back to the dealer. If you have a huge combine in your 40 minutes from the dealer that’s an incredibly expensive trip and then to pay a mechanic to get in there and diagnose it and charge you thousands of dollars to replace a bearing that’s getting warmOr something stupid that’s an office sensor is pretty ridiculous. Part of farming and successful farming is knowing how to fix your own equipment because you can’t afford to Pay the dealers tens of thousands of dollars a year to do basic maintenance that you could do yourself, and it’s kind of like they’re just rigging the system we are forced to pay dealers to do all of your maintenance and repairs because it doesn’t tell you what’s really wrong it just gives you an error code and then you have to go to the dealer and pay for all that trip that downtime wait in line until they’re ready to get to you and so on plus the cost of that repair which they’re going to charge you a ton of money to replace the bearing, if they would just give you the code book you could know it was a bearing and you could buy it for 20 bucks and pull a few bolts off and swap it out yourself. I could understand if you had a maintenance. Or they provided maintenance for three years under warranty and all that but it’s just making the cost of owning a big tractor astronomical. It’s kind of late pick up trucks, they don’t advertise them often but there are $25,000 pick up trucks out there still in there just basic work horses, but what you see in the ads are the 60 and $70,000 trucks with custom leather dashboards and everything else that’s what they’re pushing on people. The problem is a few years ago they change the law to wear for some reason tractor companies are exempt because other companies aren’t allowed to do this, your car companies not allowed to withhold the codes and specs and all of that on you just to force you to have them serviced your truck or car but tractor companies are giving an exemption and they’re abusing it, and when farmers show up to their state legislature hearings to answer questions on it, it’s not the tractor companies even showing up, it’s lawyers from Apple and Google, And that tells me that this is a political control measure that a certain side of the political aisle likes to do to control and manipulate everything and they aren’t very pro farmer and would love to send these jobs overseas to other countries if they could and personally I think it’s pretty tyrannical and needs to be stopped and I’m very upset that some of the larger Treacher companies who are playing these games and even though I grew up loving them and being a huge fan of the brand as well as their products I have a serious problem with putting money into companies who are doing this to our farmers and intern our country, I think it’s wrong, I think it’s criminal, and I think it’s anti-American and tyrannical and I think it should be stopped and if politicians aren’t gonna do anything to stop it I think the consumer should so if I were to go out and buy right now, There’s a really really good chance that my equipment would be orange instead of another color. On another note, I agree about Kubota service. I don’t think they have perfect products all the time and I think they’ve had big imperfections in the past, but what I see from them as a company is a lot of redesign and they pay a whole lot of attention to their customers, it’s clear that they’re reading the emails and the messages from people and what they do and don’t like and they’re making changes accordingly which means their products going to continue to get better and improve and companies like that are priceless

When you drove up on the apple orchard that was my first thought, it would be a great place for a little off grid cabin. I wonder if you could get water from a well out there. And with the sun staying up there longer it would be a decent place for a few solar panels. Even if you couldn’t get Water and head to Holiday Inn it would still be a great place for a little weekend cabin.

Hi, Mike.... Good to hear you guys got a good rain... wish we had that in the SF Bay Area... Since you like to hear how things are in various areas, you might be interested in our recent weather.... We had a significant heat wave over Labor Day weekend... 90° plus for three days or so... Today, were finally back to a more normal 60° trend... That's not really newsworthy, though... The really noticeable thing today is that the smoke from the area wildfires has circled back over the Bay with a vengeance.... Can't smell it where I am in the East Bay, but the higher concentrated layer of smoke makes it look like daybreak at 1:45 in the afternoon.... Good times ! ? ! Gary

Nice post, Mike! I have to agree that Kubota is a top notch brand. When I was looking, a little over a year ago, that MX was right and the top of my list. Ended up with a Massey 1755M because Kubota didn’t offer a cab...yet 😢...and they were/still employing a DPF. I could fix one of those problems in an L, but not the other. Had I known about the introduction of the MX cab version, it would’ve made that decision a LOT harder, though. All in all, I’m happy with my Massey, but as you pointed out, I probably would’ve been just as happy with the Kubota (if it had a cab! It’s cold in the winter blowing snow on that 700’ driveway) Keep up the great work, Morgan’s!
