Does the 53K include the labor to construct it or is that just the cost of the building by itself?

Why are people so obsessed with new vehicles that cost over 50K....I don't get it, but there are bunch of them and every dealership is taking advantage of them every day. Sad, it really is when you look how much sheet metal is in this build and what is in that 80K+ after taxes vehicle you looked at. What was the shipping invoice weight of all that sheet metal, just curious? One hell of a structure too, looks good!

I unfortunately went with Carport.com for my building. The installation was supposed to be free. The crew they sent we're substandard. They forced me to pay for cutting off and rewelding the mounting feet on the bottom of the walls. If I didn't, they were done. Then they wanted me to give them fuel money to go 400 miles to pick up the roll up door. When they got back it wasn't an insulated door like I ordered. They pulled out before the city inspector arrived. He found they had only installed about half of the required screws, had improperly installed the anchors and had installed the roll up door out of level. After many calls to no avail, I was forced to fix everything myself. Carport.com is one of the places you should avoid. The product was good, the installation was not worth "FREE" it cost me $2345 to correct.

Great looking building and I like your justification comparison ... I just paid more for a car than I did for 6 ac of land a few years ago. It was a rough bullet to swallow. This building should hold up for a lifetime provide added value for your property over the cost of improvements. It’s awesome you had a great experience getting it constructed.

Why would you choose this material and design over a steel portal shed. So much more labour , can't use the space in the trusses. Is it a price choice is it? Is timber that much cheaper than steel even factoring the labour costs to build? I can't think of one reason to build a large utility building this way.

Just wondering for future reference, You mentioned 53k for the building and I was wondering if that included the labor costs to have it built ? I would be planning for a car lift and I would even want hook up's for my RV inside too...

Agree with the money aspect... money well invested. That Explorer... goes down in value. Quite the opposite with your new barn. Nice, and congrats. Only thought... your building dimension (70') matches the length of our home. We put in seamless gutters. They expand and crease in the summer heat... but... we're North Central Texas... hell-and-gone towards the equator from your patch. You may have better luck with your gutters. If I had it to do over... definitely would have gone conventional on the gutters and saved a dime. If you haven't already, please share your intended use for the new barn. Again, congrats. Really nice looking building.

I built a 40x60x16 steel building w/ 3:12 pitch and two 12x13 rollups in 2015 for about $45k - this is insulated. This was in Northern CA. I am glad I did the building then because everything has gone nuts. I had $12k into concrete and prep (did the foundation work myself) and also did the electrical myself. The building was $22k and erection of the building was about $6500. This is not a normal price as I found a steel building erector who made me a deal for about 50% off and I rented the equipment. I had another $1200 in wire. 5 years later I spent $31k on an asphalt driveway that includes a huge 40x30 apron in front of the barn. I put 8000w of solar on one side of the barn myself for about $9k total grid tied. Producing 45-55kwh per day. Very happy with the investment and unfortunately I outgrew it in a few years. I have cars in the driveway again instead of everything stored in shop. Took me about 3.5 years to payoff the balance on personal bank loan (9%) of $25k. Still worth it.

$24/sq ft for the shell (not counting the covered patio). Sounds like a steal to me! I am currious that there is no sheathing on either the roof or the walls. Is the metal roof and siding a heavier than usual gauge thickness so it doesn't require sheathing? Also... What is the plan for insulation? Spray urethane has always stuck me as the way to go in a cold climate like yours but kinda pricey.

I had a 50x60 built in Michigan 2 years ago. 12 ft walls, 16 and 10 ft insulated overheads, 2 entry doors. This was quoted at 52K. Concrete was $4/sq ft. It did not include electrical, insulation, rough plumbing, windows, entry concrete pads, or excavation. I’m at 67K now. which includes: $4K excavation $3K electrical rough-in 1K plumbing rough-in 1.2K concrete entry pads 4K Anderson casement windows/doors (for future living area/workshop/trophy room) 1.5K rigid foam under living area slab section Still need to hook up plumbing/fixtures; insulation and finish Rec room area. Expecting to add another 20K. My big mistake was not having it Tyvek wrapped. Otherwise very happy with it.

When I bought my house it came with a very large unfinished garage. I struggled with interior design. Where to put things like outlets, lights ect. How many outlets, lights, ect did I need? Where to put my toolboxes and workbenches, shelving, ect. It all came together but took time to figure out. Excited to see what you do with the space.

Insulate with closed cell spray foam. I did when I built my shop and I could heat it with some candles, hahaha. Seriously though, here in south Georgia the summers can be brutal. With my three big 10x10 doors open and the outside temperature in the mid 90's to 100, the inside of my shop is about 85. The humidity is still there but a lower temperature. I recently installed a DIY split heat and A/C unit at only 35,000 btu's and it keeps the shop at a very comfortable temp and runs less that my house A/C and my shop is 36x48 with 12ft walls and an open center peak of almost 20 ft. All insulated and drywalled.

Good morning from middle NC! We finished our trek to our new home yesterday. Ended our 17-year time in MidMo. Kids and grandkids (and we) are excited! About the barn: Interesting information and pleasantly surprised by the price! Building alone is about $18/sqft, and finished about $30/sqft. Not bad for what you’re getting. It is a pleasant design. I think you’ll like that stone accent, although more wainscoting would have been ok there too. Even the slight pitch change on the porch roof is good. Windows and doors break up the walls nicely. Nice design!

Ok that was quite an explanation and run down of the whole kit & kabutle. So my question is are you going to do like my family always did and do it the old fashion way and rent a cement mixer and get all the cement supplies in and save aloot of money and do the floor yourself with Melissa, levi, eva, and madona or whatever the other girls name is.LOL sorry she slipped my fatigued mind at the moment.😁😆😅. I know the answer is Hell No but it brought back memories of everytime my ants and uncles wanted something done dad was always involved and my two brothers and I were volunteered. Driveways, sidewalks.basements .storage building floors.pretty much anything the wanted a concrete floor in we did it all by hand and mixer. Shoveling everything into the mixer and dumping it into wheel borrows and over to the area to be done .then dad and uncles would work it and use 2X4's to smooth it out. But man that would be one heck of a job to do your 40X72 floor by hand.crazy actually. It will be fun to watch that going in. Oh and don't forget the landing heading in to the garage where you will want to spray off mud and dust and whatever from tractors and movers. I guess you will be running drains since your putting a bathroom in it. Maybe put a drain midway between the to garage doors for melt off from snow on the tractors in the winter . Got to remember everything now. be to late once the cement is poured . Oh and do t forget the chandeliers throughout the building.😁😅😆😅 Ok ok im being a wise guy again. Keep em rolling enjoying everyone of the videos . This is great for your channel . Might just as well build one about 2/3 that size down back for the sawmill, splitter & conveyor and put heat and air in it and keep it climate controlled for perfect working conditions. Oh woops that one comes after the pool/hot tub complex 😁😆😅😅 Ok goodnight speedo man 😉

If this building is half as good as it looks, I'd say you've gotten yourselves a heck of a good deal and a very nice asset! I know a thing or two about buildings and their construction. What I am able to see looks like it has been done by a very good crew who take pride in their work. They seem to get after it, they are safety conscious and it looks like they don't leave a mess at the end of the day or the end of the project. I would like to have people like them working for me on all of my projects! Congratulations Melissa and Mike!
